Dancing Bachata With Your Partner

Begin putting the partner bachata dance steps together by standing before your partner and taking her in the ballroom hold. Take her right hand in your left, and place your right hand on her left shoulder blade or right below it. She will place her left hand on your right shoulder, and follow the curve of your right arm with her left.
  1. Begin putting the partner bachata dance steps together by standing before your partner and taking her in the ballroom hold. Take her right hand in your left, and place your right hand on her left shoulder blade or right below it. She will place her left hand on your right shoulder, and follow the curve of your right arm with her left.
  2. Start putting the partner bachata dance steps together by doing the basic side to side steps. Step to the right with your right foot slide your left foot to meet your right, step again to the right with your right foot, and slide your left foot to the right. Do the same steps again, but starting with the left foot. Your partner will follow you, but will start with her left foot.
  3. Follow the side to side steps by doing the forward and back steps as you put the partner bachata steps together. Step forward with your right foot, your left foot and your right foot again, then step back with your left foot, right foot and left foot before returning to the basic side to side bachata dance steps. Your partner will step backward as you step forward, starting with her left foot first.
  4. Do a right hand turn with your partner as you put the partner bachata dance steps together. While your partner does the side to side steps to the left, starting with her left foot, turn to the right, stepping first with your right foot. Keep your partner's hand low, at your waist, and as you turn, momentarily let go of it until you face her again, and resume your grasp. Take her again in the ballroom hold, and resume the side to side bachata dance steps.
  5. Continue putting the partner bachata dance steps together by doing the swaying hips steps. Stand a little to one side of your partner and not directly in front of her. Step to the right with your right foot and draw your partner closer so that your right knee will be between her legs. Do a figure eight with your torso, starting first by swaying forward to the right, swaying back, swaying forward and to the left, and right again—all while keeping your feet on the ground. Your partner will do the same but in mirror fashion. Your partner will finish the swaying hips bachata dance steps by lifting her left knee, then you will repeat the swaying hips steps by swaying forward and to the left where you will be the one who finishes the pattern by lifting your right knee.
  6. Return to the side to side bachata dance steps as you put the partner bachata dance steps together by doing a turn with your partner. You will start by stepping forward with your right foot, and turning all the way around so that you will now face the middle of the room while your partner's back faces the center. Turn back the other way by starting with your left foot, then resume the side to side bachata steps.
  7. Work on all of the partner bachata steps and put them together in that manner that suits you both. There is no right or wrong order to the steps. As long as you stay in time with the music and use the side to side bachata steps to transition from one partner bachata step to another, you and your partner will be the stars of the dance floor.
